Wolves attacking a family of raccoons.
Wolf is a species, with at least a few specific wolves being known to reside in the forest.
Background[]
At least one pack of hungry wolves make their home in the forest. This pack once threatened Bambi when he was a fawn, but he was saved by the Great Prince of the Forest. Later, when Bambi was a grown stag, they attacked the Great Prince instead, who was injured following a forest fire, as well as others of Bambi's friends and relatives including his best friend, Thumper. The wolves did not succeed in killing any of Bambi's loved ones. Instead, they were the ones who were killed by the powerful antlers of Bambi. One wolf clung onto Bambi and nearly killed him, but Bambi managed to press him against solid ice and cripple or kill him.
Diet[]
Wolves are carnivores, consuming meat of other animals to survive. Thus, they attempt to kill deer, rabbits, and raccoons, among other species, for food.

Behind the scenes[]
Wolves are not mentioned as denizens of the forest in either Felix Salten's Bambi: A Life in the Woods or Walt Disney's Bambi. They appear to have been introduced to the Bambi universe by way of another of Felix Salten's novels, Bambi's Children, which mentions a wolfdog named Nero. Later, Osamu Tezuka, in his 1951 manga adaptation of Disney's film, used a whole pack of wolves. In this work, they were depicted as villains. Indeed, they served as the "final boss" of sorts for the story, as they are the antagonists which Bambi defeats immediately preceding the story's resolution.
