Geno is the main protagonist of Bambi's Children and the son of Bambi and Faline.

Background[]

Geno is the son of Bambi and Faline. He was born on the same day as his twin sister, Gurri.

Personality[]

As a young fawn, Geno was a somewhat slow yet inquisitive learner, repeatedly asking his mother to explain concepts like snow and winter to him. He was also very imaginative, sometimes imagining conversations between the trees of the forest.[1]

Relationships[]

Screech Owl[]

In stark contrast to the relationship between the screech owl and Geno's father Bambi, Geno and the screech owl initially got along terribly. Unlike his father, Geno was impolite to the screech owl and chided him for taking delight in scaring people. This rudeness from Geno caused the screech owl to condemn Geno as "a very rude boy". Not long later, Geno asked for forgiveness from the owl, and he accepted the apology, remarking that "boys will be boys."[1]

Behind the Scenes[]

Geno, along with his twin sister Gurri, is implied to have appeared at the end of Bambi: A Life in the Woods. That novel, penned by Felix Salten in 1922, ends with Bambi meeting twin fawns who are searching for their mother. Bambi notices that one of the fawns resembles him while the other resembles Faline, implying that the fawns might be their children.

It wouldn't be until 17 years later, in Salten's novel Bambi's Children, that it was finally revealed that Bambi and Faline did in fact become the parents of twin fawns, a boy and a girl. The girl fawn's name was revealed to be Gurri, while the boy fawn was named Geno. Geno and Gurri are the main protagonists of Bambi's Children, which follows their lives and conflicts.

Geno's first appearance in animation was in 1942, when he appeared at the end of the animated feature film Bambi, appearing alongside Gurri.
